October was a quiet month for Small Shops, Big Hearts, but a month filled with two shop owners who completely stole my heart. Both women handcraft items that show their beautiful personalities and awe-worthy talent. It was a humbling experience to see their work and feel the care put into each piece.
I have some special plans ahead for Small Shops, Big Hearts with the upcoming holiday season. I am hoping to have a holiday gift guide from past featured owners in the works soon for you lovelies. (I’d even attempt a back-flip as a thank you if you check out my own little shop.)

Without further ado, here are the lovely shop owners of October:
Becky, owner of One Lane Road, creates t-shirts, homegoods, and hand printed illustrations. It all started as a way to stay home with her baby. Becky always loved making art, and had a strong desire to share it with others. For nearly a decade she shared her creativity working as a hairstylist throughout Portland, Oregon and Las Vegas, Nevada. After having her first child in 2008, it was clear to Becky that she needed a change. She wanted to stay home with her baby, make art, and… hopefully sell it. It took her a few years to find her groove, but in 2011 Becky started her label One Lane Road, selling hand printed apparel and leather accessories. The push and the drive that has kept Becky going all along is to keep a dream job where she can stay at home with her kids and make art every day.
♥ Favorite Shop Item: I truly love all of Becky’s hand printed items. She has a variety of nature, gardening, and farming related prints that immediately made me giddy. My absolute favorite of this batch is the adorable tractor love tote! It would surely catch eyes at the farmer’s market or while running weekend errands.
“Being a small shop owner means working more hours than you could of ever imagined, making mistakes and not having anyone to blame but yourself, taking risks, being a conscious consumer – supporting the other ‘little guys’ out there too. Being able to take pride in each and every accomplishment you make, and never answering to a boss!”

Jodi, owner of Whispered Truths, creates art with coffee stains, typewriter keys, and hammered whispered truths. Jodi began her business as an outlet from her monotonous 8-5 job. She was feeling very unfulfilled and lacking purpose, so she decided to take matters into her own hands and create pieces with meaning to share. It was one of the greatest decisions Jodi’s made. She’s met and created for so many beautiful people that she never would have known if not for having a shop.
♥ Favorite Shop Item: When I first found Jodi’s shop, I instantly wished I could meet her in real life because her art felt like a kindred spirit. After reading her blog, it was official – Jodi and her art will capture any free spirit, gypsy heart, or wildflower child. My absolute favorite items from all of her delights are the spoon necklaces; the designs change often, but my latest favorite is the beautiful dreamer.
“Being a small shop owner is everything to me. I began creating to spread messages of love & acceptance. and all the people who have chosen to support this journey have taught me SO much about love! It rarely feels like being a business owner. It has always felt like the freedom to create without rules and I am SO thankful for this opportunity!”
