Even though my heart resides with growing organic vegetables and fruits, I can’t think of a single soul who is not drawn to the beauty of flowers. When it comes to flowers, my thumb turns black. I always admire my mom’s garden and her natural touch; every autumn she scatters the grounds with mixes of flower seeds (and every summer holds a delightful surprise).

Once summer rolls around with her sticky air and slow-blowing breezes, the wildflowers take bloom. Everywhere you look you see butterflies and honey bees happily floating about, resting on one flower before the next. There are so many varieties of flowers, pops of color, and flashes of scent, I can’t walk by without stopping to appreciate the beauty.

Stunning pictures Caitlin! Flowers always bring constant joy to a garden — and of course are wonderful as pollination attraction for the bees, etc that you want in your vegetable and herb gardens. Perennials are a great and pretty way to go even if flowers bring out a “black thumb” (which I truly can’t imagine you having! :-) ). Research great native perennials for your area that can come up each year and take little maintenance. Bulbs are always a great first step. They were my flower gateway and I love having them pop up year after year.
    Hope all is well. :-)

Thanks so much for the information, Jess! I’ve made my mom promise that she’ll teach me her flower ways, and when we purchase the house, she is going to uproot several of her hearty flower plants to replant at my new home :)

I’m definitely going to research native perennials in my area… thanks!

What gorgeous lilies! Ah, I wish I could have them here in Arizona!

    • http://belongwithwildflowers.com/ Caitlin

Thank you, Luanne! I didn’t know lilies can’t grow in AZ. Is it too hot or dry? I’m sure you all have other lovely flowers that grow!
